Services for LGBT

If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) it can be very difficult getting information and knowing what support is available to you in Ayrshire & Arran. Isolation is a major issue and because there are very few pubs or clubs where LGBT people can be open about who they are and feel safe in the area, it can be difficult finding social support.

Some people are brought up to think that being heterosexual is the norm, understandably this can put LGBT people off talking about their true feelings and can have a huge impact on their self-esteem and self worth. When it comes to sex most people get their information from family and friends however LGBT people can feel isolated as they are afraid to talk about sex. This can also stop people from accessing services.

If you are having sex it is important that you know the facts and what services are available to you, below are a list of local services that welcome LGBT people and links to national organisations. You can also order the NHS Ayrshire and Arran leaflet Who am I, Who are you’ an introduction to LGBT, available at www.healthinfoshop
